Why Self Discipline is the key to success in life: 6 Absolute Reasons
Ever seen asking yourself ‘How to achieve success in life?’ If not, then congratulations but if yes, then you are in for some major inspiration.
When I say self- discipline is the key to success in life, I’m saying this on behalf of the most successful people that have lived on this Earth. A couple quotes by those who believed in this firmly.
Self- discipline is not a privilege, it is a necessity if you want to achieve greater heights in life. Let’s see what self discipline is exactly.
What is the meaning of self discipline?
Self Discipline means, in the simplest way possible, the ability to make yourself do things you know you should do even when you do not want to.
Sound something familiar? This happens to us everyday. There is at least one thing that we thought we would do or even made it our new year’s resolution but didn’t follow through even for a week.
This is because obviously we lack self discipline or are not aware enough of the power of it holds.
We will discuss how to develop self discipline in the later article but today it is very essential for us to understand why do we need to develop it? How and why self discipline will lead to a happy prosperous life? And why do all the successful people are always talking about it? Let’s dive right into it.
6 Reasons proving Self Discipline is the key to success in life
1. You become the master of your own life
Having self discipline helps us to overcome laziness and procrastination. You control your brain rather than your brain controlling you.
You know one cheat day will turn into many cheat days and then it will be even harder to go back.
You are in no longer a slave to your wants and desires and practice something that will be much more fruitful for you in the long term.

2. Self Discipline helps you develop delayed gratification
We,as humans, are a big fan of short term gratifications no matter how bad it is for our future selves.
Self Discipline helps you overcome short term gratification for long term satisfaction.
There must be so many days when you feel like not working out and just staying in bed because it’s more comfortable. Well, that comfort is not going to make you successful.
So whenever the thought of missing a workout unnecessarily just because you are lazy comes to your mind, clear your head and remind yourself why you are doing it in the first place.
You are doing it to lessen your stress, to be fit not just physically but mentally too. To free yourself from all the lifestyle diseases and lead a happier and healthier life.
And by remind I mean, actually picture it. Close your eyes and picture how amazing it would feel post workout and 5 years down the lane when you are fit both externally and internally.

3. Keeps you focussed on your goals
Self Discipline is the key to stay focussed on your goals. It’s because you are doing something that is a bit hard for you now but is taking you closer to your goals every day.
That’s why they say being goal oriented is absolutely essential if you want success in life. Self discipline and goal orientation go hand in hand.
If you are self- disciplined, you are clear about your goal. If you are goal- oriented, you will be self- disciplined.
Being self- disciplined, you are already one step ahead of your competitors and are already winning the race.
Another one of my favorite quotes about self-discipline is from this book, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari,
Through the steels of discipline, you will forge a character rich with courage and peace. Through the virtue of will, you are destined to rise to life’s highest ideal and live within a heavenly mansion filled with all that is good, joyful and vital. Without them, you are lost like a mariner without a compass, one who eventually sinks with his ship.

4. Helps you develop healthy habits
The art of developing healthy habits or as people like to say, good habits is something all of us need to learn.
This absolutely wonderful article will help you develop good habits habits or even quitting bad habits in no time.
As James Clear described in his New York Time’s best seller Atomic Habits, it’s not really okay to segregate habits into the good and the bad.
There are habits which help you grow take closer to your goals for which everyone uses the term “good habits”. And the other which take us farther from our goals, commonly known as “bad habits”.
But a good habit for one person might also be a bad habit for the other and hence, we no longer use the terms good and bad habits.
Anyway, coming back to our topic, self discipline will help you develop habits which are good and healthy for you.
If you learn to practice self-discipline, you will find yourself practicing those habits more easily and quitting the habits which aren’t healthy for you, thus leading to a successful life.

5. Self discipline helps you live a full life
Do you what living a full life means? It means you are living a life that you have always aspired for and the one that is busy but also a balanced existence filled with variety, satisfaction and joy.
You are continuously growing as you are not in your comfort zone all the time. And this is where self discipline comes into role.
A self disciplined person knows that staying in comfort zone constantly wouldn’t help them evolve. That’s why you have to keep incorporating habits that are good for you in order to stay self-disciplined.
Only with evolving continuously you can unlock your unlimited potential which you, I and all of us have. We just don’t care for it as much.
Imagine you are at your best physically because you workout regularly, mentally because you meditate regularly, spiritually because you take time to connect with your idols or even listen to their podcasts.
Won’t that be a full, successful, happy life? And now we know how self discipline is the key to achieving that success in life.

6. Helps you control your impulses
If each of us could have this wonderful talent of controlling our impulses, wouldn’t we be having the best time of our lives?!
Remember how many times we give up our diet just because we saw an advertisement of ice cream and how we text our ex just because we saw a romcom that reminded us of them and then later regretted.
So if you want to say goodbye to those regrets forever and have a good control on your impulses, start practicing self discipline. You will not just have healthy habits but healthy relationships too.
Conclusion
I have been going on and on about why self discipline is the key to success in life. But as I always say, excess of everything is bad. Having an unhealthy self discipline is not just bad, it’s toxic. So definitely start developing self discipline but start slow and work your way around it, gradually becoming a better version of yourself every day.
Believe me, once you start practicing it, your life will never be the same. It will change FOR GOOD!
